Harley L. Detweiler 87, of Ramsey, NJ on April 5, 2017 was born in Congerville, IL on March 4, 1930.

Beloved son of Harley and Helen Detweiler (deceased). He had one brother James E. Detweiler (deceased) and his wife Deloris. He graduated Carlock High School in 1948. He enlisted in the US Army- September 18, 1951, he served in the Signal Corps in Germany, and was honorable discharged August 26, 1953. Harley married Marjorie L. Ewins of Carlock, IL on October 25, 1953 at the historical St. Patrick's Church in Bloomington, IL. He enjoyed the love of his life for 63 years. Loving father of 2 sons Mark L. Detweiler and his wife Regina of Rome, GA and Dennis Detweiler of Ramsey, NJ. Adored grandfather of Rebekah Detweiler of Rome, GA, Rachael Detweiler and fiancee Larkin A. Dunaway of Rome, GA, Rhesa Detweiler Hyde and husband Dalton of Valdosta, GA and Matthew E. Detweiler of Rome, GA. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Harley was employed by ITT Federal Electric and retired in 1989. He worked on the Dew Line in Alaska which was the first early warning system for Air Defense. His work included designing and implementing telecommunication centers for private and government agencies. He travelled extensively to Europe, Middle East, Saudi Arabia, Israel, South America, and Vietnam. He worked all over the United States. He was an avid gardener. He loved growing things in his green house. He had a small flock of chickens, geese, guineas, and peafowl. He loved his dog Casper and his favorite pet of all time was Elmer. Harley was a member of Immaculate Conception R.C. Church in Mahwah, NJ. He was a member of the Ramsey Senior Center and Leisure Club.

Visitation will be held on Friday (TODAY) from 2-4 & 7-9 PM at the Van Emburgh-Sneider-Pernice Funeral Home, 109 Darlington Ave, Ramsey, NJ. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Saturday, April 8, 2017 at 10 AM at St. Paul R.C. Church in Ramsey, NJ. Interment will follow at Maryrest Cemetery in Mahwah, NJ.
