Certosimo, Matthew J., 80, of Mahwah passed peacefully on July 22, 2013, surrounded by his loving family. He was born July 29, 1932 and raised in Jersey City, NJ. He was a semi-pro football player and a veteran of the National Guard. He later moved to Maywood, NJ with his beloved wife Peggy to raise their 5 children, finally settling in Mahwah, NJ. He was president of the Maywood Boys Club and founding member of the football program. He became a successful registered Architect and started his career in New York at Skidmore, Owings and Merrill, later he founded his own architectural firm, designing award-winning buildings and plants worldwide. His most enjoyed pastimes were becoming a pilot, flying his plane and skiing with this family. He was a faithful member of Immaculate Conception RC Church , Mahwah, NJ participating as a lector and serving on committees including parish council. He is predeceased by his wife Margaret Certosimo (nee Zigray). He is survived by his children; Julie Kyle and her husband Frank of Greenwood Lake, NY, Chris Certosimo and his wife Maryanne of Mahwah, NJ, Gwenn Hendrick and her husband Michael of Warwick, NY, Lori Mech and her husband Robert of Mahwah, NJ and Suzan Waldron and her husband David of Harrisville, RI, 12 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. His faith, love of family, intellect, generosity and passion for life will make him sorely missed by all.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday (TODAY) from 2-4 & 7-9 PM at the Van Emburgh-Sneider-Pernice Funeral Home, 109 Darlington Ave, Ramsey.

A funeral mass will be celebrated on Thursday, July 25, 2013 at 10 AM at Immaculate Conception RC Church in Mahwah.

Interment will follow at Maryrest Cemetery in Mahwah.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Matthew's name to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation of Rhode Island or the Musella Foundation for Brain Tumor Research and Informaton, 1100 Peninsula Blvd., Hewlett, NY 11557.
